President Obama Named His Favorite Comedians On Marc Maron’s ‘WTF’ Podcast

Marc Maron has never lacked for interesting subjects on his WTF podcast. Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman and Nick Kroll were among his first guests. But even by his going-from-David-Cross-to-Louis C.K. standards, Maron’s having one hell of a 2015: Paul Thomas Anderson, Harry Shearer, Kim Gordon, Judd Apatow and Parker Posey have all dropped by the garage, and the huge Rolling Stones fan even spoke to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on the phone.

Oh yeah, and this Obama guy.

Last Friday, President Barack Obama dropped by Maron’s studio in Los Angeles for an interview that was posted today. Maron told the New York Times that the opportunity to talk to the president came about when “people on his staff who like my show, and somebody within his staff thought it would be a fun thing for him to do.” He added that there were “no guidelines, no restrictions, and we had final edit,” and also, POW, he sh*t his pants.

Obama using a certain word is getting all the press, but because WTF is a comedy podcast, and the president is a noted comedy fan, Obama naming his favorite joke-tellers was one of the more interesting parts of the episode. When Maron asked him, “who are your guys?” Obama responded with Richard Pryor, Dick Gregory, Jerry Seinfeld and Louis C.K. (“he’s wonderful in such a self-deprecating but edgy kind of way, and basically good-hearted even when he’s saying stuff that’s pretty wrong”). And what do they all have in common? They understand that “the more you do something and the more you practice it, at a certain point, it becomes second-nature.”

Listen to the whole thing here.
