GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie had a rip-roaring adventure an a Sunday morning Amtrak voyage. Christie was en route to New York City from Washington D.C., and he made a grand spectacle of himself in the process. Gawker describes the scene in vivid detail after taking notes from an eyewitness. The New Jersey governor reportedly entered the famed “quiet train” in fine form with a McDonald’s strawberry smoothie in hand.

Yet all was not delightfully sweet and topped with a mountain of whipped cream, for Christie began yelling at one of his companions, who was believed to be part of his security entourage. Christie was reportedly upset about a seating mix-up, and then he plucked up his phone and yelled — “Seriously?” — at someone else. Here’s a tweeted confirmation of a different passenger’s observations.

Christie was so displeased that his smoothie may have melted before he had a chance to dig in. Amtrak takes its quiet-train enforcement seriously with lots of prominent signage asking passengers to refrain from yammering on their cell phones. Christie did not obey, and so he was rightfully booted from the train. Twitter went wild with jokes, many of which are not repeatable here:

A Christie spokesperson responded to the story with CNN on Sunday afternoon with no denial of the reported event. Sam Smith simply stated that Christie did not mean to enter the quiet car:

“On a very full train this morning, the Governor accidentally took a seat in Amtrak’s notorious quiet car. After breaking the cardinal rule of the quiet car, the Governor promptly left once he realized the serious nature of his mistake and enjoyed the rest of his time on the train from the cafe car. Sincere apologies to all the patrons of the quiet car that were offended.”

Camp Christie acknowledges that their man got rowdy on the train, but they say he left the car voluntarily. No word on what happened to the smoothie.

One Twitter user passionately disputed the media’s take on events.
