A Cruise Ship Turned Into ‘The Shining’ When An Elevator Began Pouring Blood

Warning: graphic footage

An electrician aboard the Carnival Ecstasy cruise was killed while working on an elevator this weekend. Jose Sandoval Opazo’s death was described as a “real-life scene [from] The Shining” by Matt Davis, who was on the ship with his wife Susan when they saw blood pouring out of the elevator.

Davis told Fox 4 Now, “A crew member or somebody was inside or behind that wall when the elevator came down, and I don’t know what happened, but something terrifying happened.” Carnival later confirmed Opazo’s death. “The company extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family and loved ones of our team member,” the cruise line said in a statement. “Our CareTeam is providing support. Appropriate authorities have been notified and a full investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.”

The couple said time stood still, it sounded like a rainstorm, and they could smell the blood.

They said they were heading to dinner on the 10th floor of the ship Sunday night when they saw the horrifying scene. “One of the crew people from Carnival was trying to get people to go back to the restaurant,” Matt Davis said. (Vi Fox 4 Now)

Miami-Dade Police are investigating the death.
