When not revising the script to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in full Dark Knight regalia (Ben Wyatt is very jealous), Ben Affleck is checking out his comically large back tattoo of a phoenix in the mirror. Look at this inked mid-life crisis! Affleck reportedly “got it done at home” soon after splitting from his wife of 10 years, Jennifer Garner. For the first time since the break-up, the Alias star spoke to Vanity Fair about what actually happened. It’s a highly entertaining interview, and you should read the whole thing (yes, the nanny is brought up), but there’s one passage in particular that’s worth highlighting.
One thing is for sure: she refuses to claim responsibility for the midlife-crisis tattoo — the rising phoenix — that takes up her estranged husband’s entire back, as seen in photographs. “You know what we would say in my hometown about that? ‘Bless his heart.’ A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario?” Garner says with a wink. “I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes.”
I could listen to Jennifer Garner talk about Ben Affleck’s back tattoo for days. I hope Batman v Superman is worse than Elektra, out of spite.
