A Package Of Marijuana Worth $10,000 Fell From The Sky And Took Out A Family’s Doghouse

Weed doesn’t fall from the sky every day. So, when an Arizona woman, Maya Donnelly, heard a ruckus outside her home one morning, she assumed it was a thunderous monsoon. She fell back asleep and awoke to a terrible mess inside her carport. A large package fell from the sky, leaving “a perfectly round hole” inside the carport’s roof and crushing her doghouse.

Donnelly lives in Nogales, a city so close to Mexico that it borders against Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. As such, she assumed the package contained drugs and immediately called police. The bundle contained $10,000 worth of marijuana, and authorities say either an ultralight aircraft or a pilotless drone lost control of its precious cargo:

Nogales Police Chief Derek Arnson said it was the first time in his three-year tenure that he had seen a load of drugs hit a building. “Someone definitely made a mistake, and who knows what the outcome of that mistake might be for them,” Arnson said.

“Where it landed was clear on the other side of the house from the bedrooms,” Maya Donnelly said. “We were lucky in that sense.”

Donnelly’s family will swallow the cost in repair bills, but at least no one (including the dog) got hurt in this incident. Donnelly does say her friends keep asking why she didn’t simply hold onto the drugs, but she needed to keep “a clear conscience.”
