Purina Is Going To Be Running A Pop Up ‘Cat Cafe’ In Manhattan This Week

Pet food manufacturer PurinaOne is going to be operating a “Cat Cafe” in Manhattan this Thursday, April 24th, in an effort to “spark conversation among cat owners and experts about cat health and well-being.” The event is also being held in conjunction with Long Island’s North Shore Animal League, featuring kitties which will be available for adoption. According to The Gothamist:

Visitors get to play with and nuzzle all the kitties; and if you want to keep the heavy petting going, all the cats will be available for adoption. The cafe portion of the pop-up comes from a Brooklyn-based artisan coffee roaster that’s yet to be named—though the casually placed Cafe Grumpy mugs in photos could be an indication of what’s in store—and all the food and beverages will be free!

There’s a bar in my city which features a resident cat, and if you can look past the whole unsanitary aspect of animals + food service, it’s only kind of the best thing ever. If anyone is located in Manhattan and wants some free food and kitty scritches this Thursday, the pop up will be held at an events space at 168 Bowery between 10 a.m. through 7 p.m.

The header image, by the way, was taken from “Cafe Des Chats” in Paris — apparently the first ever Parisian “cat cafe” which I can now add to my list along with Ben and Leslie’s love lock that I’m pissed I didn’t know existed when I visited Paris last autumn, goddammit. I would have visited the crap out of that place.
