Meet Austin Hatfield, a Floridian snake-lover who got too close too soon with a snake he’d only just met (and hadn’t even bought dinner).
WESH reports that Hatfield caught a water moccasin and kept it in a pillowcase under his bed. According to friends, he also kissed it several times. Twelve times successfully and one time… not so much.
We (were) sitting in the kitchen, and he ran out of the room saying, ‘Hospital, hospital, now, now,'” his best friend, James Belcher, said.
Hatfield was in critical condition when he got to the hospital, but he’s expected to make a full recovery. No word on what the snake is doing or whether it was, as rumors are suggesting, that it was a McCoy.
Once Hatfield’s recovered, officials will be looking into his snake charming ways. WESH reports that the teen doesn’t have a license for the reptile.
