What was the world like before Pokémon Go came into our lives and sucked our phone’s battery dry? If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon, the game uses actual locations to serve as pokestops to collect pokeballs and gyms to battle your Pokémon. One particular location of a gym just so happens to be the Westboro Baptist Church, the well-known hate group that recently attempted to protest the funerals for victims of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub Shooting, but instead got totally owned. Now, the Westboro Baptist Church is in another heated battle, this time regarding Pokémon Go.

This weekend, a Pokémon trainer by the nickname Pinknose claimed the WBC gym using a Clefairy by the name LoveIsLove; a popular phrase for the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

Westboro Baptist Church then took swift action to reclaim the gym and oddly enough recruited Jigglypuff to be their spokesmonster. Why they decided to recruit a Pokémon whose abilities are ‘cute’ and ‘charm’ is completely bizarre, but we’re talking about the Westboro Baptist Church here.

Church elder Steve Drain spoke with USA Today about their involvement with the hit game stating, “We try to speak whatever language is being spoken. Pokémon Go and sin no more. That’s what the lord Jesus Christ said.”

Westboro Baptist Church also published some disturbing Vines today featuring the likes of Pikachu, Bulbasuar, and Charmander. Despite the game being only a week old, Pokémon Go stories are probably going to get even weirder than this.
