Engineer Starts a Website Dedicated to Building a Space-Worthy Trillion Dollar Enterprise Replica. Uh, Good Luck?

So, some engineer who just goes by “Dan” (not Seitz…at least I don’t think so) has gone and started a website called Build the Enterprise, dedicated to posting his plans for a full-size, space-worthy replica of the USS Enterprise. An engineer that likes Star Trek? Well, now I’ve heard everything.

Now, before you get too excited, Dan hasn’t invented the warp drive — instead the idea seems to be that this ship would be a fancy replacement for the International Space Station. According to Dan’s plans his Enterprise would house up to 1000 people, be a lot roomier than the current space station, have gravity and be able to putter around our own little corner of the galaxy, making trips to the Moon, Mars and Venus. The price tag for building this “Gen1” Enterprise? Oh, around a trillion dollars.

It’s also going to be fairly large.

So yeah, it’s very unlikely anything like this is going to happen within the next 100 years, but the site is still entertaining. At the very least it’s a fun, and seemingly fairly informed, bit of speculation about what the bridge between current human space exploration and the Star Trek chillin’ in space in miniskirts future might look like.
