Mike Pence’s Alma Mater Releases His Lost Cartoon Strip, And Boy, Is It Awkward

On Tuesday, Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence joined forces with CNN to conquer the internet. The resulting live-streamed haircut seen round the nearest block didn’t do much, but that’s okay because Pence’s alma mater stepped in with a few choice snippets from his ol’ law school comic strip, Law School Daze. Yes, that’s right. While the future governor of Indiana was studying at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, he doodled a few toons about the crazy life law students lead.

As Esquire reports, the official Twitter account of the Ruth Lilly Special Collections & Archives scanned and published a few pertinent examples of Pence’s art from his “salad days.”

They featured a character who, according to Esquire‘s reading, served as the politician’s “alter ego,” and were published in the law school’s official student newspaper throughout the ’80s. While they’re nowhere near as awkward or damaging as the 1972 college essay Bernie Sanders wrote about a woman’s rape fantasies, Law School Daze doesn’t shine the best — or brightest — light on the time Pence served in law school’s intellectual cocoon.

There’s also his penchant for terrible puns, like Torts Illustrated — a law magazine for kids.
