Hideo Kojima Reveals More Details About ‘Death Stranding’

Death Stranding was arguably the star of Sony’s E3 presentation this year, and it’s not even in production yet. The return of Hideo Kojima, especially after his treatment at the hands of Konami, was enormous, and the fact that he had something to show after just two months of work was a huge surprise. And the surprises just keep coming, as that trailer will supposedly be much like the game when it arrives.

The teaser is apparently in-engine test footage, and Kojima isn’t sure he’s using that engine just yet:

One thing I really want to tell people is the teaser is running in real-time. We made it in two and half months — and generally teasers are not made by the development team. We made this teaser ourselves, so people can trust us… What you see will be in the game.

Kojima does note that production proper hasn’t begun yet and he doesn’t have a release date planned for the game, even though apparently he defines part of the game as messing with fans, so don’t assume we’ll be seeing it any time soon. Intriguingly, he mentions that the scientific equations spotted on Norman Reedus’ dog tags are clues as to the plot of the game, and he mentions that crashing waves and the song by Low Roar, called “I’ll Keep Coming”, tie into the theme.

One thing he did not comment on is the game’s nickname of “Norman Reedus and The Funky Fetus,” but give him time. Knowing Kojima, he planted that nickname just to mislead us.
