The internet giveth, and the internet taketh away. Earlier this week, a 24-year-old Jackson, Miss. man, Courtney Barnes, became a viral internet star due to his eccentric account of a car accident involving a police officer. It soon came out that Barnes was a former contestant on So You Think You Can Dance, and in a sad turn of events, also wanted by police.
Barnes was arrested by Jackson Police Thursday afternoon for two outstanding misdemeanor theft warrants stemming from alleged shoplifting charges at both Walmart and something called Swell-O-Phonic, according to Jackson’s WLBT 3, which also covered the original story.
We spoke with a manager at Swell-O-Phonic who says that Barnes stole a Van’s bucket hat just over a month ago. She also says he has been known for shoplifting in the area.
Unfortunately, the viral video that put him on the radar of America also happened to put him on the radar of the very police who were looking for him. Moral of the story: Don’t go on live TV if you’re wanted by the police. I feel like that’s a pretty obvious moral, as far as morals go.
