Dylann Roof was arrested and taken into custody last week after opening fire and killing nine people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Now, footage of his arrest has been released by the police department.
The video, which you can see above, is startling. Roof is taken from his car while officers cover him and the local radio station blares from the cop car, offering the only soundtrack to the events. While Roof looks angry, the arrest seems almost routine. He’s patted down and handcuffed and then transported to the police vehicle.
The only non-routine thing about this arrest, Death and Taxes points out, is that the cops brought Roof Burger King after bringing him in. Yes, seriously.
