It’s kind of repetitive to say that every perfect game seems to have one crazy defensive play, but that happened today as Toronto pitcher Marco Estrada was in the 8th inning of a perfect game against Tampa Bay. During the first at-bat of the inning, Rays left fielder David DeJesus hit a lazy pop up out of play down the third base line.
It probably should have gone into the stands and counted as a strike, but Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson sprinted over to the stands and dove to catch the ball for the first out of the inning. It was one of the best catches that you’ll see in 2015.
Unfortunately, the next batter hit an infield single, even though Donaldson almost made another insane play to get the out. Estrada lost his perfect game, but at least Donaldson had today’s best web gem, which is a nice consolation prize.
