Hafthor Julius Bjornsson is a man that goes by many different names. You may know him by his title as The World’s Strongest Man. Or by the name of the character he plays on Game of Thrones: Ser Gregor Clegane, The Mountain That Rides. He’s called that because, well, dude’s as big as a mountain! And in the show he rides horses … when he’s not cutting their heads off for struggling under his weight.
So, long story short, The Mountain is a nasty piece of work, and the actor/strongman that plays him is no pushover either. So it was interesting to see him turn up at Straight Blast Gym in Ireland, where he and UFC featherweight contender Conor McGregor had a little training scrap.
It was all fun and games until Conor started hitting Hafthor with kicks and body shots. The strongman tries to go full Mountain on the stand-in Viper, but McGregor is just too quick for him and manages to duck out of every bullrush and grab he makes. That’s not much of a surprise – Conor McGregor has proven too fast for all the ultra-fast 145 pounders he’s faced in the UFC, so what chance does Bjornsson have at 418 pounds?
Yes, you’ve read it right. By all accounts, the internet lists Hafthor Julius Bjornsson at 190 kilograms of muscle. As for what that muscle can do … here’s something from Hafthor’s Instagram:
Conor McGregor returns to the cage to fight for the featherweight title on December 12th. The Mountain and Game of Thrones will return to HBO … who knows when.
