This Artist Is Set To Parody Pretentious Art By Sitting Naked On A Toilet For Two Days

Lisa Levy has decided that she’s sick of the art world’s bullsh*t. It’s for the elite. The 1%ers. Maybe even the .1%ers. So she’s going to do something about it. Something decidedly arty. Her upcoming exhibition titled The Artist is Humbly Present, will feature Levy seated naked on a toilet for two days with another toilet across from her which the public can sit on. Yes, she’ll stare into the eyes of whomever decides to plop down on the toilet along with her, all in the name of cutting down pretentious art. If this premise sounds familiar, it’s because it is. It’s a parody of Marina Abramović’s “The Artist is Present”, which Levy wants to skewer.

Here’s part of what she wrote on her Facebook page:

“Ego and pretense has seriously f*cked with the quality of work being made in the art world,”I’m also tired of the bullsh*t trendy art dialogue about how the art world is driven by rich people who want shiny work and don’t care about meaning as well.”

It almost seems like Levy is either fighting fire with fire, or creating an ouroboros of pretentiousness and maybe even a new genre of art that’s relevance/level of pretentiousness is based solely on your feelings on art and maybe even pretentiousness itself. She’s so pretentious she’s not pretentious and thus it’s unpretentious art! Nay… just art. Give me a moment, my eyes just crossed.
