For months now, the makers of Street Fighter V have promised the fighter would be getting a new cinematic story mode as part of a major June update. Considering how light Street Fighter V‘s single-player content was at launch, players have been hotly anticipating the update’s release, but unfortunately we have to wait through one more minor delay. Yes, the long-promised “June update” is now coming out July 1. Not a huge deal, but come on, Capcom. Would it have been that hard to get your June update out in June?
On the plus side, Capcom has a nice surprise bonus for impatient fans – in addition to the story mode, and the previously-announced character Ibuki, the July 1 update will also include classic Street Fighter II character Balrog. For you youngsters who don’t know what Balrog is all about, he’s basically a caricature of 1990s Mike Tyson and, unlike most Street Fighter characters, can only use punches. He’s also a real pain in the ass to play against. You can check out a trailer for the new Balrog above (stay to the end, when a couple additional characters are teased).
The Street Fighter V story update is free, while new characters Balrog and Ibuki can be purchased for $6 or 100,000 in-game Fight Dollars. Of course, folks who signed up for the Street Fighter V season pass will get all the content at no additional charge.
Any lapsed Street Fighter V players out there? Interested in getting back into the game now that the (very wacky looking) story mode and couple new fan-favorite characters are almost here?
