The phrase “mother knows best” exists for good reason. Typically, there are few situations that mom’s advice can’t help you get out of. However, getting your butt handed to you in the UFC octagon seems to be one of them.
UFC light heavyweight Khalil Rountree was in that situation during Friday night’s The Ultimate Fighter 23 finale, when Andrew Sanchez gave him the business. Apparently, Rountree’s mom was in attendance and providing some unsolicited advice or commentary, and her son was having none of it. With his face pressed up against the cage, Rountree shouted “mom, shut up!” twice.
It was a very unexpected outburst we’re not exactly sure what prompted it, but let’s just hope mom didn’t take it too hard and they were able to make up after the fight. After all, mom’s presence is clearly valued enough to have her as part of the ringside entourage.
And now, for more unsolicited advice: This guy should probably channel all of his focus into not getting worked inside the octagon rather than trying to get his mom to quiet down. We all know moms can be intrusive and annoying sometimes, but we also know they don’t typically enjoy watching their sons get beaten down.
