The release of hacked documents regarding Hillary Clinton never seems to end. Newly leaked audio hears Clinton questioning President Obama’s nuclear strategy and her empathizing with Bernie Sanders supporters.
The recent comments were recorded at a fundraiser in February and were released on the site of the conservative publication The Washington Free Beacon, as reported by The New York Times. The publication did not reveal anything about who was responsible for the hack, but it wouldn’t be so far-fetched to believe Russian hackers could be responsible.
In the leaked audio, Clinton is heard talking about putting the kibosh on the Pentagon’s desire for nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, with her saying “the last thing we need is sophisticated cruise missiles that are nuclear armed.”
One of the more interesting parts of the audio is her discussing Bernie Sanders supporters. Some of the Bern’s supporters have been less than enthused she is the Democratic presidential nominee, but Sanders has her back. Clinton has even adopted some of Sanders’ policies to win over these dejected dreamers. And she said in leaked audio she understands their frustration with the economy, referring to them as “children of the Great Recession:”
“They are living in their parents’ basement. They feel they got their education and the jobs that are available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves. And they don’t see much of a future.”
She went on to say the appeal of Sanders is that he is an outsider who offers this group a glimmer of hope:
“If you’re feeling like you’re consigned to, you know, being a barista, or you know, some other job that doesn’t pay a lot, and doesn’t have some other ladder of opportunity attached to it, then the idea that maybe, just maybe, you could be part of a political revolution is pretty appealing.”
The timing of this leak doesn’t come as a surprise, as hacked information regarding Clinton has seemed to be released at moments when she sees a surge in the polls. Another leak occurred on the heels of the Democratic National Convention, and mere days after her positive performance at the first presidential debate this audio comes to light.
