Chrissy Teigen Defends Kim Kardashian From Trolls Angry That She Wasn’t Killed During A Robbery

Much like the world we’re living in, the Internet can be a pretty cruel place — particularly social media. Whenever there’s a story worth being sympathetic or empathic over, it seems as if every positive tweet gets buried and overshadowed by dozens of nasty comments from cynical, cold-hearted netizens who pride themselves on being heartless trolls. And that’s just for regular John and Jane Doe. It’s 100 times worse when you’re rich and famous like Kim Kardashian.

Kardashian, a mother of two, was reportedly held at gunpoint at a private residence in Paris, France, and robbed of $10 million worth of jewelry on Sunday. A spokesman for the reality star says while she wasn’t harmed during the terrifying home invasion, Kardashian was “shaken up pretty badly.” Rich or poor, “shaken up” sounds about right when you’ve just stared down the barrel of a gun and didn’t know if you and your children were going to die.

With the news all over social media, a substantial amount of tweets making fun of the reality star’s devastating ordeal popped up with some sickos upset that the robbers didn’t “do the world a favor and kill that worthless b*tch Kim Kardashian.” The usual troll stuff. However, Chrissy Teigen still expected more from social media.

The outspoken model took to her own Twitter and defended her friend in a series of tweets. “Some sh*t just isn’t funny. I see you trying, but it isn’t,” she first tweeted. “Fame is interesting. Celebs are supposed to love you guys while also knowing you’d make a meme of our dead bodies to get retweets. I dunno. It’s hard to explain because everyone thinks money and fame is pure awesome, so it just sounds whiny. I get it, trust me. Go off.”

When Teigen was asked if people should throw their sympathies behind celebrities who are so rich that they don’t know the first thing about hardships, the Lip Sync Battle personalty said she didn’t think celebrities were “special snowflakes” begging for sympathy, adding to her comments, “Please do not think that I think celebrities are special snowflakes. I just miss empathy, in general, for everyone.”

Rich or not, being held at gunpoint in your own home is terrifying as hell. And it’s a different kind of terrifying if you’re a woman because there’s always that sexual assault fear in the back of your mind. Love her or hate her, Kim Kardashian is an actual person behind the glitz and glamour, as James Corden reminded critics Sunday night. “People making jokes about Kim Kardashian tonight would do well to remember that she’s a mother, a daughter, a wife, a friend. Be nice or shut up,” the Late Late Show host tweeted.
