Well okay, a bit of clarification — scientists have discovered a couple new species of microorganism, which they’ve named after Cthulhu. What?
The two new microbes are named Cthulhu macrofasciculumque and Cthylla microfasciculumque and they live in the stomachs of termites, not the lost underwater city of R’lyeh. Oh, and don’t worry, they’re not out to bring about the destruction of human civilization — they’re actually useful in fact, aiding their termite hosts in their digestion. So, I guess they might be out to bring about the destruction of your old deck, but that’s about it.
But why are these little critters named after Cthulhu? Because they move around like octopuses. That’s really the only reason. I dunno — seems like a waste. I mean, what are we going to tell Cthulhu when shows up for real? “Sorry man, but some termite stomach parasites already have the name ‘Cthulhu’ called. Should have risen sooner buddy!”?
