Earlier this month, Arnold Schwarzenegger said he’d be in Terminator 5 and it would start shooting next January. Then a rumor circulated about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing the earlier version of the Terminator in battle with a human version of Arnold Schwarzeneggar that later Terminator models were based upon. We don’t know if that intriguing rumor is true, but Paramount has issued a press release which reveals new information.
In short, they’re calling the fifth movie simply Terminator and describe it as a reboot in a “stand-alone trilogy”. They set a release date of June 26th, 2015 for the first movie. They’ll have to finish the trilogy before the rights revert back to James Cameron in 2019.
Is it wrong that we’d like to see the third movie delayed so long that the rights go back to Cameron just as he’s gone mad from years living in a pineapple under the sea? That’s right. Ocean madness. And then — in a fit of marine-fueled lunacy — James Cameron decides to finish the trilogy with an homage to Weekend At Bernie’s. Get ready for Terminator 7: Weekend At Arnie’s, in theaters Summer 2020. *fingers crossed*
