Oy with the poodles already! The ‘Gilmore Girls’ revival is official!

Oy with the poodles already! The speculation and “unofficial” speak about the Gilmore Girls revival can finally end, cause it”s official now: Netflix is making new Gilmore Girls episodes – for real. TVLine reported the exciting news, with Netflix and Lauren Graham confirming the announcement on Twitter.

Our return trip to Stars Hollow will have us visiting Rory, Lorelei, Luke, Emily, Kirk, and Lane – Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Sean Gunn, and Keiko Agena are all set to reprise the roles they played in the beloved series from 2000 to 2007.

Sadly, there will be no Richard Gilmore – Edward Herrman passed away in 2014. Hopefully the revival will some kind of touching tribute to him. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, it”s unlikely that we”ll see Sookie St. James in these new episodes. Melissa McCarthy, whose comedy chops in movies like Bridesmaids and Heat have made her a star in the years since Gilmore Girls wrapped, is not expected to return.

Creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino are writing and directing all four episodes, so we”ll finally get a proper ending to the series that we didn”t get with the Palladino-less seventh and final season.

TVLine”s report on this is calling each of the four new 90-minute episodes “mini-movies.” Netflix hasn”t officially used that term yet, but it certainly seems to continue the trend of streaming TV-as-movies that HitFix”s own Roth Cornet and Alan Sepinwall chatted about in a recent Fandemonium episode that you can watch here.
