Spy thriller The Night Manager starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie premieres on AMC in the U.S. tonight, though it premiered in the U.K. in February.
The six-episode miniseries based on the John Le Carre novel of the same name follows the story of a luxury hotel night manager who is recruited to infiltrate an arms dealer's network.
Here, Roth Cornet and Alicia Malone talk with director Susanne Bier about adapting the classic novel for a modern audience that is very attuned to the tropes of the genre; whether Tom Hiddleston should be the next Bond; her energetic creative process with Laurie; why female directors aren't approaching Kathleen Kennedy to helm a Star Wars movie; and if there should be a separate category for male and female directors at the Academy Awards.
