‘John Wick 2’ takes place only a week after the first film

Lionsgate is set to release John Wick: Chapter 2 on Feb. 10, 2017 and director Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves, Common, Ian McShane, screenwriter Derek Kolstad, and producer Basil Iwanyk attended New York Comic Con to give fans a first look. (The studio also revealed the first Power Rangers trailer there.)

The sequel also stars Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Riccardo Scamarcio, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, and John Leguizamo. Here's the new poster, putting John in the middle of all the action as usual.

And the new destination trailer…

Ohh, that's nice. He gets to take a relaxing vacation in Italy after all that nonsense in the first John Wick…oh god, here come the guns.

IGN.com was at the panel where they revealed a bit of what to expect. Surprisingly the film takes place just about a week after the first one which means John is probably pretty exhausted.

When asked what brings Wick out of retirement once again, screenwriter Derek Kolstad talked about the first film's allusions to “the impossible task”, which Wick had to complete to earn his freedom. “John Wick: Chapter 2 takes place arguably a week after the the first one,” he explained. “There's this item called a Marker, which is regulated by The Continental, and it's kind of a blood oath, meaning that John Wick gave someone the ultimate request so that he could get out of the life. And because he's resurfaced, they have resurfaced to actually cash it in. But John Wick is changed.”

“I really liked putting this suit back on and doing what John Wick gets to do,” Reeves told the crowd. “He”s a guy that”s really fighting to be free.”
