Fans at the Star Trek 2013 Convention in Las Vegas were asked to rank thirteen movies: the twelve official Star Trek movies and 1999’s Galaxy Quest, an underrated parody of the fandom. Attendees at Jordan Hoffman’s “One Trek Mind Live” panel ranked the thirteen movies, with the results being about what we expected:
- BEST: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
- Star Trek: First Contact
- Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
- Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
- Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
- Star Trek (2009)
- Galaxy Quest
- Star Trek Generations
- Star Trek: The Motion Picture
- Star Trek Nemesis
- Star Trek Insurrection
- Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
- WORST: Star Trek Into Darkness
Devin Faraci of Badass Digest writes, “Star Trek Into Darkness was met with boos when it was mentioned, and one guy took the mic to say these reboots shouldn’t even be considered for a list of Star Trek movies.”
The top of the list doesn’t surprise us, but ranking Star Trek Into Darkness the lowest seems like sour grapes on the part of the fans, or perhaps many of the voters were too young to remember the older films. Star Trek Into Darkness definitely had its problems (like stepping on the magic of Wrath of Khan), but calling it the absolute worst one? Really? If only there were some sort of crucible we could use to test Star Trek Into Darkness. I know! Let’s show it to Chappo the dog and see if he likes it…
If the dog don’t howl, that movie’s foul.
