Jennifer Hudson leads off some singing spirit in the new trailer for holiday family drama “Black Nativity.” The Christmas film features the “Dreamgirls” Academy Award winner using her famed pipes, for an adaptation of Langston Hughes’ “gospel-song play.”
“Black Nativity” is a story that follows Langston (Jacob Latimore), “a street-wise teen from Baltimore raised by a single mother, as he journeys to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett). Unwilling to live by the imposing Reverend Cobbs” rules, a frustrated Langston is determined to return home to his mother, Naima (Hudson). Langston embarks on a surprising and inspirational journey and along with new friends, and a little divine intervention, he discovers the true meaning of faith, healing, and family.”
As if you need more star-power from Hudson for the songs side, Mary J. Blige shows up as an angel too. Nas, Tyrese Gibson (or, simply, Tyrese) and Luke James are also in the mix.
Hark! “Black Nativity” heads to theaters on Nov. 27.
