“About Time” director Richard Curtis knows the value of a good piece of pop music.
HitFix sat down with the director to talk about the new romantic time-traveling drama which stars Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy.
Curtis acknowledges the importance of music in the film, which features key songs from The Killers, Ron Sexsmith and Ben Folds, plus the heartbreaking inclusion of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ “Into My Arms.”
“You’ve got lots of time to think about the soundtrack,” he explains, “because it takes a long time to write the film. The music is very much part of the writing process for me.”
He also discusses how his personal experiences filter their way into his films — which also include “Notting Hill” and “Love Actually” — and, briefly, his upcoming TV film with Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench.
“About Time” is now in theaters.
