Funny accents abound in the latest trailer for “Muppets Most Wanted,” Disney’s follow-up to the 2011 reboot “The Muppets.”
The sequel seems to be emphasizing zany silliness over the warm nostalgia of the 2011 film, and this trailer features plenty of inspired gags, both new and previously seen.
While on tour in Europe, things take a turn for the Hitchcockian when Kermit is mistaken for the nearly-identical master thief Constantine, who is working with the duplicitous Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais). Soon, Interpol (led by “Modern Family’s” Ty Burrell, sporting a Clouseau-esque French accent) and a Russian prison commandant (a delightfully hammy Tina Fey) are involved in the case.
In addition to Kermit, Miss Piggy, Walter, Fozzie, and the rest of the plush gang, “Most Wanted” features cameos from Sean Combs, Celine Dion, Christoph Waltz, Danny Trejo, Zach Galifianakis and many more. James Bobin is again at the helm, while “The Muppets” co-writer/star Jason Segel is not involved this time around. But Animal sure is.
“Muppets Most Wanted” opens March 21, 2014.
