Fan-favorite badass Peggy Carter was denied a third season of her show on ABC, but Hayley Atwell is getting another chance to reprise the role. She”s voicing the S.H.I.E.L.D. founder in an upcoming episode of Disney XD”s Avengers TV show, announced on the Marvel Animation panel at New York Comic Con this weekend.
Agent Carter will show up in a season 4 episode of the series, which launched with the name Avengers Assemble, and will air as Marvel”s Avengers: Secret Wars for the fourth season, which has yet to get a premiere date. The series is currently in its third season.
Marvel Animation”s Cort Lane and Stephen Wacker told the fans at NYCC that both Peggy and Howard Stark will make appearances in the episode (though only Atwell, not Dominic Cooper, was mentioned for a voice role).
The super squad in Avengers: Secret Wars features Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, The Wasp, and Vision.
Also during NYCC, Marvel Animation announced a whole new series for the web-slinger called Marvel”s Spider-Man, which will debut sometime in 2017. “The simple title reflects a back-to-basics approach – the story of an ordinary teen, Peter Parker, who suddenly finds himself with strange new powers and overwhelming responsibility,” Cort Lane, senior vice president, Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment, said in a press release. The new series will come after Disney XD”s Ultimate Spider-Man concludes its four-season run in January. The “back-to-basics” approach with teen Peter Parker will arrive right around the theatrical debut of Spider-Man: Homecoming, featuring the youngest of the three actors who have embodied Spidey on the big screen.

• Finding Dory joins the $1 billion club. The Pixar sequel just kept swimming and crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office this past weekend, following its June 17 opening in the U.S. and several overseas territories. Mid-September openings in Italy and Germany helped push Finding Dory past the big number in spite of getting a smaller turnout from China than other Disney films this year. Dory has earned $38 million at the Chinese box office, while Zootopia – which joined the $1 billion club in June – brought in $235 million in China.
• Here is your first look at EmojiMovie: Yes, this is really happening. Late Late Show host James Corden and Broad City actress Ilana Glazer have joined the voice cast of EmojiMovie: Express Yourself, Sony announced today. They, along with Silicon Valley“s T.J. Miller, will voice emojis in the film. Sony also revealed a first look image, complete with a poop emoji, from the film, about the city Textopolis in “the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone.”

• Rapunzel, Eugene, Pascal, Maximus, and (what?) Rapunzel”s hair are back in Tangled: The Series teaser trailer: The first look at footage from Disney Channel”s Tangled TV show left fans baffled: somehow gone is Rapunzel”s brunette pixie cut, and her magical long locks are back, though the series is supposed to take place between the 2010 movie and the 2012 short film sequel Tangled: Ever After. Not all that baffling, really, as Disney Channel”s gotta promote the show with Rapunzel”s iconic look (which looks wonderful in this particular 2D style), but they do have some explaining to do.

• New LEGO series and five other kids” animated shows are coming to Netflix: The streaming service announced last week that an animated series called LEGO Elves will debut in 2017 with eight episodes. The series joins Netflix”s LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One and LEGO Friends: The Power of Friendship. Time portals, detective bears, and preschoolers who turn into monsters at night are among the rest of the new animated line-up Netflix announced for 2017 and 2018 premieres.
Netflix is also expanding its less kiddie-friendly animated fare. Pacific Heat, proclaimed “Australia”s first prime time adult animation,” will reach Canada, U.K., and U.S. audiences when the first 13 episodes of the series comes to Netflix on December 2, according to Variety. An Australian debut is expected later this year.
• First trailer for Guillermo del Toro”s Trollhunters hits the web: In yet more Netflix animation news, DreamWorks unveiled its first trailer for Trollhunters at New York Comic Con, and now it”s online too. Much of the colorful trailer features Kelsey Grammer hamming it up as the four-armed, six-eyed troll Blinky, but you can also catch a bit of the voice performances from Ron Perlman and late actor Anton Yelchin as the teen human thrust into the underground world of the trolls. Netflix also announced a December 23, 2016 premiere date for Trollhunters.
• Trolls gets its first reviews: As for DreamWorks other trolls, the Justin Timberlake-Anna Kendrick movie faced the critics at the London Film Festival this weekend. The Hollywood Reporter called it “an admittedly vibrant-looking but awfully recognizable animated musical comedy concoction,” while Owen Gleiberman at Variety said, “Kids should adore it, but don”t let that scare you – the movie is every 3D psychedelic inch a fairy tale for adults.” Trolls opens on November 4.
