On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza killed 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut before turning a gun on himself. And on this fourth anniversary of the massacre, ABC News reports that police have arrested an Oklahoma teenager who allegedly plotted to carry out a mass shooting at a local high school.
This weekend, officers executed a search warrant at a 13-year-old girl’s home in Tonkawa, a small town north of Oklahoma City. Investigators discovered an entire cache of weapons (rifles, handguns, ammo) in the house, along with the girl’s journal, all of which pointed towards a horrific ultimate goal. Authorities had received a tip about the girl’s plans from a concerned parent who had spoken to their own child, although the extent of this other teen’s knowledge isn’t clear.
The girl’s personal writings, according to OKC’s local Fox affiliate, contained a “hit list” and written threats upon specific students. Tonkawa Corporal Nick Payne stated, “Our investigation shows she was ready to take action.” Oddly enough, however, the girl is home-schooled, but she knew these students by name. The students’ families have been briefed, and the girl currently resides in a youth detention center.
At this time, police haven’t uncovered any evidence to reveal an accomplice in the plan. The girl’s parents and grandparents also reside in the home, and investigators reveal that the firearms are registered in these adults’ names, but the teen was apparently “stockpiling” them on her own.
