Texas Governor Rick Perry was on Letterman last night — the exclamation point on a day of media blitzing by the Perry campaign in a desperate attempt to recover from his epic bed-sh*tting the Wednesday night — to deliver the “Top Ten.” The verdict?
Well, look — trying to be objective here, which is admittedly hard because as you may have noticed I’m not really a Rick Perry fan, to say the least — I think he came off as kind of weird and creepy, despite making an honest effort to poke some fun at himself. There was just something uncomfortable about it, though he had some decent, funny material to work with (see below). It felt like he was trying way too hard to be funny — I think he would have been better served being more deadpan and not so, well, over-the-top clownish.
“I had a five-hour energy drink six hours before the debate.”
“Hey, I wanted to help take the heat off my buddy Herman Cain.”
“I just learned Justin Bieber is my father.”
