Next up on the list of wildly successful horror films with modest budgets to receive a sequel is The Purge, which earned a whopping $89 million worldwide on a budget of just $3 million. While it’s not surprising that Universal Pictures would greenlight a sequel after that kind of success, it is pretty surprising that it’s here already, less than a year after Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey tried to survive the annual night of chaos. Except nobody from the original cast is returning for The Purge: Anarchy, as certain actors have excuses like their characters were brutally murdered, and only writer and director James DeMonaco remains.
But before we all flush this one down the toilet as another corn-filled retread, we should know that The Purge: Anarchy takes things outdoors during the 12-hour murder-fest, and one unlucky couple is going to have to survive the night the really hard way. Maybe just call in sick on the day of the Purge next time, dumbasses.
