A few Frotcast listeners have requested that I tell you guys in advance what we’ll be discussing on the next episode ahead of time so that you can watch it yourself. And then presumably listen along, shouting your own opinions into a crowded subway car or wherever. Trouble is, we don’t tend to plan much in advance ourselves. This week, though, you’re getting a full 24 hours notice! We’ll be discussing the Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler rom-com spoof, ‘They Came Together,’ from David Wain and Michael Showalter, the team from ‘Wet Hot American Summer.’ Remember ‘Wet Hot American Summer?’ Fun fact: ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ is currently tracking 32% recommended on RottenTomatoes, while ‘Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’ is holding strong at 78%.
The spoof never goes out of style, and yet, no one seems to be able to make a good one anymore (Lord and Miller notably excepted). Surely a team as talented as Wain and Rudd and Poehler and Showalter can do something with a subject as desperate for parody as the modern rom-com, right? It seems like a reasonable expectation to me. But hey, what do I know? I’m just a smoky-eyed blond with big naturals. Anyway, check out ‘They Came Together’ on VOD, and then check back here to discuss it with your imaginary internet friends. Drinking alone?! Nuh-uh, boss, I’m with all my pals!
