Robert Deniro Will Play Jennifer Lawrence’s Dad In David O. Russell’s ‘Joy’

Silver Linings Playbook
is about as polarizing as most of David O. Russell’s work, but I think even most of the haters would agree that it was Robert Deniro’s best work in years (which isn’t necessarily saying much when you’re comparing it to Grudge Match and Last Vegas). Now Deniro and David O. Russell will be collaborating once again, on Joy, a movie about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Mangano, with Robert Deniro playing her father. In real life, Robert Deniro was 47 when Jennifer Lawrence was born.

In Joy, Lawrence will play Miracle Mop creator Joy Mangano, a single mother of three who became one of America’s most successful entrepreneurs. She created a number of products for her company, which she later sold to the Home Shopping Network in a multimillion-dollar deal. The film is set for release Christmas 2015. [THR]

According to Yahoo, Bradley Cooper has also been “invited to participate,” though it doesn’t specify in what capacity. In the elaborate fantasy I constructed just now in my head, Cooper would play Tom-Tom, Joy Mangano’s oil boy, who spends his days making sure her breasts are properly moisturized, though this is all just speculation of course.

Here’s the real Joy Mangano selling “My Little Steamer.”:
