While every film blogger on the Internet has been trying to develop psychic powers to determine if Christoph Waltz is actually playing the greatest Bond villain of them all, the one thing we now know for sure is that Andrew Scott will play a villain. That’s obviously bad news for people who had been holding out hope that the Chiwetel Ejiofor rumors were true, but it is great news for fans of the BBC’s Sherlock series, as Scott has already been playing one hell of a diabolical villain in Moriarty.
According to the Mirror’s anonymous source, it was that role that cemented the opportunity for Scott, and he’s on the verge of joining the ranks of show business’s best bad guys.
“Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in Sherlock.
“Casting directors thought he was perfect to play a baddie and they wanted to use his existing Sherlock profile – and amp it up to the next level.
“Andrew is hoping the move will see him leap from TV to the big screen, where he can eventually divide his time between London and LA. He knows this is his big break.” (Via The Mirror)
So what does that mean for Dail Mail writer Baz Bamigboye’s confident assertion that Waltz was, in fact, joining the cast of the 24th Bond film in a “significant role” that is also a “complex one”? The Mirror writes that Waltz is still “joining the cast,” and Variety acknowledged the press reports that he’s playing the iconic villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, but it has all been kept as one delightful rumor. We will know the answers to all of our Bond 24 questions tomorrow, as the producers will be hosting a way-too-early live stream to announce the official cast and title of the film.
And then maybe they’ll actually start filming this movie.
