This past Friday, residents of San Diego were treated to a rather interesting news graphics flub during a segment on an alleged sexual assault. “Other than being incredibly offensive,” you might ask, “how could such an otherwise horrible subject be presented as interesting?” Oh, I don’t know — how about depicting President Obama as the alleged suspect with “NO CHARGES” captioned below his profile?
The Obama shot lasted about 5 seconds, but it was noticed immediately in the newsroom, said Mike Wille, an assignment editor.
“Yeah, there was an accident when they had an over-the-shoulder” display, Wille told Times of San Diego. “It wasn’t on purpose.” (Via Times of San Diego)
As depicted in the clip above, the segment continued after the broadcast cut to another shot. No mention of the massively terrible mistake during or after the segment.
Asked why there was no on-air acknowledgment or apology for the error, Wille said: “They really don’t do that when it’s a small thing like that.” (Via Times of San Diego)
Have fun, internet!
