John Slattery revealed a few small details about his character on Netflix’s upcoming Wet Hot American Summer miniseries, and so far, it sounds like he will fit right in at Camp Firewood.
The entire original cast of Wet Hot American Summer is back for the eight-part miniseries, plus Slattery’s Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Chris Pine, Jason Schwartzman, Josh Charles, Paul Scheer, and Richard Schiff. At this point, it is almost easier to list who isn’t cast in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp than who is.
John Slattery is credited as a cast member for all eight episodes, and during a press junket interview for the final season of Mad Men, he spoke about his character and how he fits into the larger cast:
“Claude Dumet is a theater director,” he says. “I’m trying to think, what can I tell you? I’ll give it away. I’m a theater director who comes to direct a camp production.”
Slattery was also amazed that he knew so much of the cast already, despite not having been a part of Wain’s original film:
“I didn’t realize how many of those people I knew! …From Chris Meloni to Paul [Rudd], Amy [Poehler], Bradley [Cooper], Zak Orth — I’ve known all those people over the years.”
The show’s all-star cast is exciting and Slattery’s part sounds hilarious, but really, I’m just happy that H. Jon Benjamin will be back to play that talking can of vegetables.
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is scheduled to premiere July 17, 2015 on Netflix.
