While doing some research for a feature about Hugh Hefner’s birthday, staffers over at Playboy came across something they weren’t expecting to find in the magazine’s storied archive. Among a slew of all kinds of dusty unmentionables were blueprints for secret, underground passageways, built inside the homes of some of Hollywood’s horniest celebrities and led directly into the Playboy Mansion.
Not only did they find plans, but they found photos of the construction projects. But the plans themselves are pretty amazing because they leave absolutely no doubt what and who they’re for:
So, according this blueprint, tunnels were built to the homes of “Mr. J. Nicholson,” “Mr. W. Beatty,” “Mr. K. Douglas” and “Mr. J. Caan.” We’ll go ahead and assume they’re talking about Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Kirk Douglas and James Caan -– all of whom lived near the Playboy Mansion during the late 1970s and early 1980s. There are no dates on the architectural schematics, but the dates on the Polaroids were from 1977.
While it’s a very cheeky find, is it really a surprise that guys like Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty had private, Batman-like access to the Playboy Mansion? There’s probably an entire underground city that caters to Hollywood’s most privileged and randy. Imagine the stories. Good heavens, the stories that may never be told…
