Singapore is celebrating 50 years of independence this year, so the city-state was like, what better way to celebrate our independence than with a bunch of koalas? As such, Singapore is getting a few loaner koalas from Australia. Paddle, Pellita, Chan and Idalia will be spending six months at the Singapore Zoo starting in May as “cultural ambassadors” for Australia. More things should be celebrated with koalas, quite frankly.
“What does this have to do with koalas riding on an airplane?” you may be asking yourself. Excellent question. Qantas airlines, the premiere airline of Australia’s marsupial cultural ambassadors, will be transporting the koalas to Singapore, so they staged this photo shoot of the koalas enjoying some nice business class perks, like Eucalyptus and beverage service, and a complimentary hot towel.
Sadly, the koalas will actually be traveling to Singapore in crates, as it’s unknown if the altitude will cause them to freak out and go drop bear on everyone’s asses. The fantasy of having a koala bear seat-mate was nice while it lasted, though.
