The exploits of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman are the stuff of legends: There are the vast networks of underground tunnels that extend from Mexico to the states made solely for the transportation of contraband; There’s the sprawling matrix of underlings, from a convoy of ATVs that encircle his locations to corrupt government employees ready to do as he commands; the contraband itself — tons and tons of methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin that find its way across the globe on a daily basis. Then, there’s the various disappearing acts he’s pulled from Mexican prisons, the last of which culminated in his capture following a seemingly docile interview with the greatest journalist who ever lived, Sean Penn.
Currently, Guzman is serving time behind bars in a maximum-security prison, and according to his lawyer, he’s not receiving the kind of treatment that a twice escapee deserves. Attorney José Refugio Rodriguez spoke with Radio Formula on behalf of his client, begging the powers that be to send Guzman to the states for further punishment. It’s not like the U.S. doesn’t want “El Chapo.” American authorities are foaming at the mouth to get him inside a U.S. prison, one where he’ll have a restrained ability to sway officials into letting him walk out, as he did when he first escaped prison in Mexico.
Guzman claims that prison guards in his fatherland are not letting him sleep nor use the toilet in a private capacity. But, what does the drug lord expect after he’s escaped from secure locations on two separate occasions? So far, the U.S. Department of Justice has declined to comment on the matter, but you can probably guess that their thoughts are something along the lines of Please, please let this scumbag come here so we can prosecute him to the fullest degree. Also, that whole issue with him not liking to poop in public? Yeah, we’re not rectifying that either.
