Offering Melania Trump (Supergirl alum Laura Benanti) a chance to redeem herself wasn’t the trick Stephen Colbert‘s live Late Show had up its sleeve on Tuesday. Turns out CBS sent a social media team to the Republican National Convention to find some of Quicken Loans Arena’s most mundane corners and, with the help of Facebook Live, transform them into something… slightly less boring. Like the ketchup and mustard station they decided to live-stream for two whole hours, and the mustard-hoarding Fox News anchor they caught in the process.
“We knew this was going to happen,” Colbert said of Trump’s official nomination. “But there was supposed to be a floor fight, right? There was supposed to be chaos. Bikers chain-whipping the rules committee. Ted Cruz trying to cut out Reince Priebus’s eyeball with a broken bottle. We were promised excitement, but none of that happened. They voted, he got it, that’s it.”
To illustrate just how disappointing the convention was, Colbert turned to the aforementioned “RNC Ketchup and Mustard Station” video. “Yesterday, for two hours on Facebook Live, [the social media team] streamed footage of the condiments station at the convention hall,” he quipped. “Half a million people watched delegates putting ketchup on their hot dogs!”
Luckily, Special Report host Bret Baier arrived just in time to save the day. Towards the very end of the live video, the Fox News personality appeared at the station with an empty water bottle. He then proceeded to pump a few generous shots of mustard into the water bottle. Which ain’t a bad idea if there isn’t a hot dog or small condiment container to pump said mustard into, but still… it’s weird. Especially since, as Colbert notes, Baier “kind of looks around before he leaves.” Like he shouldn’t be filling a water bottle with mustard.

To his credit, Baier was a good sport about it.
Haha @StephenAtHome! Nothing like the cool refreshing taste of french's. Next time keep the funny questions in. https://t.co/pNzUq5aSrc
