Just as everybody expected even before he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kevin Love has opted out of his contract and will be a free agent on July 1, according to Marc Stein.

Again, this is not earth-shattering, nor a surprise. This is merely a formality, something even David Griffin, the Cavaliers general manager, said would happen a week ago. Now, Love and the Cavaliers will sit down to negotiate a contract extension that can take advantage of the exploding salary cap in 2017 (meaning a likely 1+1 deal – one year guaranteed, the second with a player option). While Love may listen to other teams, he’s said all along he wants to be back in Cleveland, so it would be a surprise to see him in any other uniform come next year.
