Former No. 1 overall draft pick Greg Oden has failed to stay healthy and make a major impact in the NBA, and now it appears his time in the league may officially be over. We thought it might be a good idea, and Oden has reportedly signed with the Jiangsu Dragons in China for one year and $1.2 million, as first reported by Real GM.
Oden has played in only 105 games in the NBA since being drafted in 2007, and, believe it or not, has only played in parts of three different seasons. He last played with the Heat in 2013-14 in 23 games where he averaged 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
In February, Oden struck a plea deal to settle his battery case after he was accused of punching his ex-girlfriend in the face.
Oden of course was picked first in the 2007 draft by the Portland Trail Blazers, ahead of Kevin Durant, Al Horford, Mike Conley, Joakim Noah, Arron Afflalo, and Marc Gasol. Now that LaMarcus Aldridge has dumped Portland to go to the Spurs, the wound of not having any of those players will still remain extra fresh this upcoming season for Blazers fans. There is no salve after missing out on two cornerstone players, and a bevy of significant role players after nabbing the top spot in the NBA Draft Lottery. But Blazers fans have been here before.
