Those of us… well, you… who watch Agents Of SHIELD, were in for a real treat tonight, as the Marvel show premiered this extended clip from The Avengers: Age of Ultron, from returning writer/director Joss Whedon, which opens May 1st. In the clip, the gang is all sittin’ around shootin’ the sheez at Tony Starks’ house, trying to see who can pick up Thor’s hammer, and the whole thing feels just like a Viagra commercial, which I’m quite sure was by design. If you set Viagra rock (yes, that’s a genre now) as the background track during a clip of a bunch of dudes trying to pick up a heavy hammer, duh, that’s a boner metaphor. “When you’re a man of a certain age, all you want to do is rule Assgard.” Anyway, Cobie Smulders is also there, which is great, because I can never get enough Agent Maria Hill.
All of a sudden one of Tony’s Iron Man robots goes self-aware and disrupts the boner party, and I didn’t have to read the Wikipedia page to gather that that’s Ultron. After that, it’s a lot of posing and shooting and people landing in tripod position for some reason and cars flipping over. In fact, based on the promos, I always assumed Agents of SHIELD was a show about black SUVs that just can’t stay upright.
So, ARE YOU GUYS EXCITED YET??? Okay, well chill out, there’s going to be another (*counts on fingers*) seven months of this. The seven months of Smulders, as I call it.

Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963.
