Last Sunday, Ralph Fiennes and Christoph Waltz paired up for the Variety Studio series Actors on Actors, and while that is merely a coincidence regarding today’s big rumor, we have to wonder if they talked about a little more than the craft. According to The Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye, the veteran actors are now set to become co-stars because Waltz is supposedly joining the cast of the yet-to-be-named 24th James Bond film.
The writer’s description of the rumored role from his anonymous source is certainly confusing, but Bamigboye has at least locked into the idea that this is a fact.
He will play a ‘significant’ role in the untitled Bond 24 movie that will begin filming early next month.
However, I am told that the part is a complex one. ‘It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both,’ a person who has knowledge of the screenplay told me.
Although someone else on the production let slip that the character Waltz has signed up for is ‘extremely cunning’. ‘A nemesis of sorts,’ they continued. (Via the Daily Mail)
It’s important to note, though, that just because Waltz would play a “nemesis of sorts,” it doesn’t mean that he’s supposedly playing a bad guy. He could be playing an ally of Bond and MI6, and his character is just a bit of a dickhead or something. As filming begins on December 6, time is becoming a bit of a factor in casting the final roles. While Lea Seydoux was, in fact, confirmed for Bond 24 and Dave Bautista ended up taking the hulking henchman role that we wanted for the Mountain, it is still unknown if Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the role of the main villain, as has been the rumor for most of 2014. For all we know, if Bamigboye’s anonymous person with a script is telling the truth but trying to cover his own ass, Waltz might actually be the villain.
Or it’s all a lie and we’re just a bunch of suckers. Either way, I can confirm with 100% certainty that the main villain in Bond 24 will not be played by Nick Cannon.
