After a long, long wait (the game has been in development for more than a decade), it seems like the latest entry in the Doom series is finally coming together. We just got a very brief teaser for the fourth Doom (which is simply named Doom), and id Software and Bethesda are promising to show off gameplay at this year’s E3.
This game has suffered through a lot of false starts and reboots. The most recent happened in 2013, when id threw out the version of the game they were working on because “it didn’t exhibit the quality and excitement” they were hoping to deliver. Well, we can now judge for ourselves, because a user on the Doomworld forums has leaked footage and screens from this canceled version of Doom. Check out footage above and some screenshots below.
It certainly looks a bit bland. A little too much Gears of War influence in there for my tastes. The fact that the new teaser focuses first on foremost on a crazy looking monster definitely feels like a good sign.
