Video game ads are mostly bullsh*t. A lot of brash slogans, screaming announcers, random celebrity endorsements, and pre-rendered footage that looks nothing like what you’ll see in the actual game. Why? Because the realities of the video game industry are often pretty depressing, and certainly won’t make you want to buy the next Call of Duty.
Well, the folks at Cracked have made a video game ad that strips away the nonsense. We just have an older guy, who looks a lot like most video game executives, telling some harsh truths. Like the fact that video games aren’t so much a thing you do for fun, as something you’re addicted to because they activate the pleasure centers in your brain. Or that most major games are essentially identical, and most of the video game industry’s innovation is instead dedicated to making you pay for games as many times as possible.
Yup, it’s all pretty bleak, and yet… who now wants a Horton’s Reality Escaping Electric Brick? I’m told it’s exactly fine, and I MUST HAVE IT. Come on, I can’t be the only one.
