If you play video games, you’re familiar with Nolan North. He’s voiced everything from Deadpool to what appears to be half the Transformers. One of his more memorable roles was in The Last of Us and he just leaked that the franchise is coming back.
For those unfamiliar, The Last of Us follows Joel, a man who loses his daughter to military incompetence early in a zombie outbreak and never fully recovers from the loss. He’s hired to guide Ellie — a young girl who somehow is immune to the fungus turning humanity into monsters — to a resistance hideout. Along the way they bond over giraffes and dope-slapping mooks with bricks. It was a great game, and also a moving one. Joel is no hero, Ellie is no princess, and the game explores how people come together or fall apart in the face of hardship.
VG 24/7 has unearthed a clip from North’s recent appearance at MetroCon, where he explicitly confirms that The Last of Us 2 is on the way. It’s not a surprise; the first game was a sizeable hit, moving eight million copies and was the best selling console exclusive to the PS4.
Still, it’s hard to imagine a sequel. Naughty Dog wrapped up the story of Joel and Ellie in a way that you could pick up on, one supposes, but the original ending was pretty close to perfect and rather final in a lot of ways. But, Naughty Dog, if you’re reading, at least let’s have Ellie learn to swim by the time the sequel picks up, huh?
