Benedict Cumberbatch may soon be working with J.J. Abrams again on another major franchise starting with Star. Film Chronicles published a rumor that Abrams wants Benedict Cumberbatch for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII. Badass Digest goes one further by saying he’d play a villain in multiple movies.
I’ve heard the role he’s up for is that of a bad guy, almost certainly a Sith. And it’s a major role, one that will continue throughout the whole new trilogy. This part is why he dropped out of Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak. But it’s not a done deal, and it may not yet come together. There are some other commitments Cumberbatch will have to break to secure the part. In the meantime, I know that there have been official denials coming down from multiple channels – these denials are why the story didn’t break in a trade – but with a JJ Abrams production I never believe the denials. For what it’s worth, Benedict Cumberbatch recently told Total Film about his love for Star Wars, saying he “was an out-and-out kid running around with a lightsaber wanting to fly the Millennium Falcon”.
He also said, “I’ve already asked [J.J. Abrams] if I can be a lightsaber and we’re in talks – about whirring sounds and the rates for the lights and everything.”
He can do it, you guys:
I’m going to need a ten hour version of that loop, Internet.
